Oath and Identification

THE OATH

The following is the oath sworn by all initiates into the Order, at the time of their graduation from their first six months of training. The oath has changed somewhat in the last two years, since the rebellion of the New York Chapter:

I [insert name here], do solemnly swear that:

I am a Magus, a human whose soul has been touched by the First Light, and this light flows through me. It is the source of my power, and my bond to all those so touched. This bond is stronger than blood - I have no family more important than my brothers and sisters in the Order. The Order's goals shall be my goals. My goals shall be the Order's goals. I shall defend my family with my life, as they defend me with theirs.

I am born of this World, and as this power is a gift of the World, so it shall be my task to defend it. I shall stand against the darkness, that which threatens my World from without and from within.

In this task, I swear my loyalty to the Elders of the Order, that their wisdom may guide me to success, to understanding, and to the greater glory of our Order and our Light.

I shall not allow those who have slipped through the Veil into our World dominion over it.

I swear that my power shall pierce the Veil for the purposes of no other species, except in the express service of my duties to the Order.

I shall stand against the tide of those who would take our World from us at all times.

This I swear, on my Power, on my Life, and on my Honor.

IDENTIFICATION

All Magus of the Order carry a badge, signet ring and wear a pin or brooch on the lapel of their attire.

Members of the Order who are the equivalent of clerical and support staff carry identification but no badge unless their position somehow warrants it. Their rings are silver, unlike the gold of the Magus.

BADGE

Like all members of law enforcement they carry a badge paired with a laminated card printed with their formal identification and descriptor. The badge is a circular shield bearing the standard of the order.

SIGNET RING

All members of the Order possess a signet ring. Upon it is inscribed their name, chapter and rank. It is a gold ring with standard of the Order upon it's face. The ring is necessary to bypass protective wards and utilize certain areas of one's Chapter and is exclusive to the wearer. One cannot simply steal a signet ring and use it, the owner and the object are connected. The enchantments of the ring wear off after 24 hours if the owner has not worn the ring in that time. To replace a ring is complicated process and so Magus are very mindful of the relics and rarely remove them.

The rings ARE NOT tracking devices, but a member of the Order if they so choose can initiate an enchantment turning them into a beacon of distress when necessary.

PIN / BROOCH

The lapel pin or brooch is a small standard worn formally. It is often pinned to a lapel or breast of a jacket and is simply one more form of identification common to the Order.
